Today I want to talk to you about a very important principle when it comes to your health. Many people have been taught that they should base their health on how they look or how they feel.
This is called reactive care.
This is what medicine is based upon. You go to the doctor when you have a symptom, when you’re not feeling well, and then the goal is to relieve that symptom so you feel better.
Or you have a health condition or a medical diagnosis so you’re prescribed some type of medication, shot, or surgery that helps manage that disease, but it never really goes away.
You never truly get healthy. It’s because you’re in a relief care model.

You Can’t Trust Pain Symptoms to Tell You When You Need Care
Now, many different Chiropractic, even natural healthcare offices also exist in this model because this is exactly what’s covered by your insurance plan and this is what’s common. Which means that you come in with some type of a symptom and the goal is to relieve that symptom so you feel better.
Here’s the important thing to understand. Only 10% of your nervous system, even detects pain at all, and it takes a loss of 40% of normal function before you can even feel that symptom.
So 90% of health, you don’t feel!
The portion that you do feel, you have to lose over 40% before that shows up, which means you’re likely already in that disease process or late stage in anything that you have going on.
The Road to Recovery
If you look at this chart behind me, this talks about the road to recovery.
Many people when they show up, it’s because they’re in pain and they have some type of a health issue and they want to see that that improves. That’s somewhere down here (the red area). Now you start doing things to stay healthy, you start functioning better, you start getting better and you start to feel better and you start to get up to this point (the yellow area).
Now this is where symptoms improve. This is at 60%. Now here’s what’s really important. Most people right here (the yellow area), they stop doing those good healthy things. They stop going to their chiropractor, they stop exercising, they stop their weight loss plan and what happens is they go right back down again.
You may not feel this right away but eventually you are going to get back to that acute zone again and you’re going to be in pain or the symptoms are going to show up or a health issue comes back and then you start doing those good things again and you go up a little bit and you start to feel a little bit better and then you stop and you get in the same pattern and you just keep going down, down, down, and your health worsens over time until eventually a major disaster happens.
Why We Focus on Correction and Function
Now what we focus on here at New Life Chiropractic is correction. It’s not about symptoms. It’s not based upon how you look or how you feel.
It’s based upon function.
Now when you start to function better and you start to feel better, you continue doing those things and you get healthier. The longer you do that you can actually prevent health issues from coming up and eventually you can reach what’s called your optimum health potential.
What Is Optimum Health Potential?
Optimum health potential is where your body is functioning as it should and you’re at your absolute best. That’s up here in the green and that’s where you want to stay for your entire life.
That’s why I get adjusted every single week. I make sure my family gets checked and I recommend every single patient get lifetime corrective chiropractic care so that they can get to and maintain that optimum health potential.
If you’re looking to not just feel better and be your absolute best, you want to make sure you come to a corrective care chiropractor just like what we do here in the office. If you want to learn more about that, check us out online at MaxLivingRocklin.com.
