Prenatal and Postpartum Care

pregnant women benefit from chiropractic

Prenatal Chiropractic Care

Pregnancy creates a variety of shifts in the body. It is common for mamas to experience some type of discomfort during pregnancy. Research has shown prenatal chiropractic care provides pain relief for 84% of mothers and shortens labor times up to 39%.

Aside from just pain relief and being more comfortable for 40 weeks (more or less), chiropractic treatment ensures proper nervous system function to all organs and systems of the mother, ensures proper pelvic balance for labor and birth, and allows for an easier recovery for mother and baby.

As pregnancy progresses, adaptive techniques for mothers physiological needs are taken into account. Consideration for her relaxed ligaments and safe, comfortable positions for the adjustment are employed.

Webster specific chiropractic adjustments remove interference to mother’s nervous system, balance pelvic muscles and ligaments, balance the mother’s pelvis and may allow for optimal baby position for birth.

Chiropractic care is safe for both mother and baby. The baby is protected within the mothers bony pelvis and within the membranes and amniotic fluid. An adjustment cannot hurt the baby. Special care in made with pregnancy pillows or table variations to make mother more comfortable.

Postpartum Chiropractic Care

Whether you have just had your first baby or your youngest of five is off to college, postnatal care can benefit any woman who has been pregnant or birthed a baby in her lifetime. Postpartum care in our country is virtually non-existent and is almost never the standard of care once a baby is born other than a few check-up appointments. This leaves most women with the belief that they will have to live with postpartum symptoms the rest of their lives.

Common postpartum symptoms include:

  • Incontinence issues with jumping, running, coughing, laughing, sneezing etc.
  • Low Back Pain
  • Rib Pain
  • Sacral Pain
  • Pelvic/pubic pain
  • Sacroiliac Pain
  • Discomfort or pain with intercourse
  • Weak core muscles
  • Weak pelvic floor Diastasis Recti
  • Prolapse
  • Trigger points in abdomen
  • Mindset shifts.

Having a qualified practitioner help you identify these issues is an important step in working towards healing. Having a BirthFit Professional on your side to help identify, address and educate you on how to properly and safely start to heal through mindset, chiropractic, exercise and nutrition is the best way to ensure your success.
