How can chiropractic care help expectant mothers during pregnancy? Is it safe to get adjusted when you are pregnant? These are common questions.
Many pregnant women fear chiropractic adjustments because they think it’s unsafe or they worry that it’s dangerous to lie on their stomach. These are both credible fears.
What most people don’t know is there are very special techniques to take care of pregnant moms. When chiropractic care is administered properly it can help aid the process of the pregnancy, so you’re feeling a lot better.
Pregnancy Can Be Wrought With Discomfort
Chiropractic care during pregnancy can help you avoid things like:
- Back pain
- Back labor
- Sciatica
- Numbness and tingling
- Digestive problems
- hormone problems.
In addition to all the pain you can avoid, chiropractic adjustments also really help prepare the baby for the best birth possible. Chiropractic adjustments help the baby get in the proper position by releasing intrauterine pressure and strain and by helping make sure that the pelvis is balanced and moving correctly so that it’s able to open up.
This allows a more natural, healthy, easier delivery for mom and a faster recovery after the pregnancy. With continued care after childbirth you can avoid developing chronic issues from lifting, breastfeeding, and the stress associated with being a new mom.
Chiropractic Is Very Valuable For Pregnant Women
One of the most important things you can do during pregnancy is to maintain a healthy, functioning nervous system. Chiropractic care will help you maintain the proper positioning of the pelvis and the lower extremities, which will allow for the best possible outcome for a natural, intervention-free delivery. And a good outcome for you results in the best outcomes for the baby as well.
How Does New Life Chiropractic Adjust Pregnant Women Safely?
Here are a couple of things that we do specifically for pregnant moms.
One of the things is the concern of lying on your stomach. We use special pillows that actually have areas to lie your stomach down in. This is called a pregnancy pillow.
During your adjustment, we’re doing very specific small drops, very light adjustments, specifically for pregnant women.
One of the things that we were trained in is what’s called the Webster technique which is a way of balancing the pelvis and the nervous system specifically for pregnancy. It may help many times with positioning of the baby, too.
A lot of times because of pelvic imbalance and subluxation, because of improper movements and interference in the nervous system, babies can be in the wrong position. The Webster technique has been shown very successful to help babies get in the right position by removing intrauterine pressure and strain and by balancing the ligaments that support the uterus and the pelvis.
A baby that is in the proper position often results in a more natural delivery.
We also use special types of tables and instruments. One of our tables allows you to kneel down to the point where your pregnant belly can fit perfectly in the area below where you are resting your head and shoulders so we can do a nice, gentle, natural adjustment.
There’s multiple different techniques that we use for pregnant women that we specialize in doing here in the office. So if you’re pregnant, you know somebody who is pregnant, whether you’re having painful symptoms or not, one of the best things that you can do for yourself if you want to have a natural healthy delivery is get chiropractic care.
