How Stress Skyrockets Your Blood Pressure

When your stress level goes up, your whole body suffers.

  • Blood pressure increases.
  • The digestive system shuts down.
  • The immune system shuts down.
  • Rapid heartbeat.
  • Hormonal changes.

When you stress your body out day after day the result is chronically high blood pressure.

How to Decrease Stress & Reduce Blood Pressure

  1. Destress is the first answer. Yes. De-stressing is huge for you.
  2. Try things like meditation, yoga and breathing exercises.
  3. Explore your creativity. When was the last time you did something creative? Just for the fun of it. When was the last time you went out and painted?

High blood pressure itself is nothing more than a warning sign like any other symptom. A symptom is your body telling you there’s an issue. And so, you have a couple of choices.

  • You can ignore it
  • You can cover it up
  • You can do something about it and find what the cause is.

When we look at what’s going on with blood pressure, it’s an indication that we’re reducing the size of the arteries. There’s a thickening or there’s a blockage in the arteries, so we have less space. It’s harder to pump the same amount of stuff through a tiny amount of space. This creates more pressure. The heart has to beat harder. It has to work harder.

The thickening of the blood is caused by platelets that clump together. But, when do platelets usually come? They come when they heal something.

So, if you cut your hand, the reason it heals and it stops bleedings is because platelets go in there. They stop it, they coagulate, and you don’t bleed to death. That’s a healthy thing.

Same thing goes on inside your arteries. If there’s something damaging your arteries on a regular basis, then your body sends in cholesterol and platelets to block that up and keep you from bleeding to death or dying. That’s a healthy thing too. That’s saving your life!

So the real question is how can we reduce the stress…and resulting damage so that this natural healing process doesn’t cause damage?
